How the placenta may help post-partum

The placenta contains many nutrients and hormones that have helped to sustain life for the weeks that you were growing and nurturing your baby.

These nutrients and hormones are still within your placenta and that’s why placenta encapsulation makes so much sense.

When you give birth either vaginally or by C-section your body utilises many nutrients, the following may be replenished when ingesting your placenta capsules:

Iron

Lack of iron can lead to low energy levels, general weakness, dizziness, and anxiety. This is particularly common after childbirth, especially with excessive blood loss.

Vitamin B6

Lack of vitamin B6 can cause cracks on the corner of your mouth, lead to depression and a higher likelihood of contracting infection and confusion.

Increasing your iron and B6 by ingesting placenta capsules can help to prevent the typical drop experienced after childbirth.

understanding more about

Your hormones

After you have had your baby there is also a pronounced drop in hormone levels, this drop in hormone levels is what many scientists believe to be one of the main causes of Post Natal Depression (PND).

Your placenta contains the following hormones:

Oxytocin

Oxytocin, also called ‘The love hormone’ is the hormone responsible for love, bonding, orgasms and the general feeling of peace and satisfaction.

Progesterone

Progesterone works in conjunction with prolactin to help establish an adequate milk supply, normalises blood clotting also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and can reduce swelling.

Estrogen

Estrogen is known to be the female hormone and help to regulate moods. The sudden drop in this hormone specifically has been linked with postnatal, perimenopausal and postmenopausal depression.

TRH

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) also called thyrotropin-releasing factor (TRF) or thyroliberin, is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus, that stimulates the release of thyrotropin (thyroid-stimulating hormone or TSH) and prolactin from the brain. Prolactin is the protein that enables milk production.
